Hm... This section seems very... silent...

Anyway, I'm a fan of Batman. Didn't start collecting since d beginning, but 10s 2 d internet, m able 2 follow d progress of d storyline til now. @ 1 time when I'm earning more, started buying some of d graphic novels.

Also a fan of Daredevil & The Darkness. Not much investment into that though, $$ is really an issue.

S 4 manga, only hav d .hack//Legend of the Twilight series. 3 issues only, which was actually good 4 me. Story is dif from d anime, but I like it nonetheless. It's more funny. :)

4 those released locally in Malay, hav d complete series of Satria Pedang, Gundam Wing & Gundam X. Yes, I can't read chinese. :p

Support original comics lah. Comics are a niche industry. Without your support, the comic books shops will go out of business. :)

Sure, we still have Borders and Kinokuniya. But they only sell collected editions or Tradepaperbacks. Not single issues.

Please buy originals instead of downloading comics.

:)

I know it can be expensive. I cannot tahan myself for some titles like Amazing Spider Man, 3 issues per month. That's about RM45 everymonth just for Spiderman. So I cancelled and now only follow 2 monthly titles.

Anyways, about myself and comics.

I started reading comic books when I was as young as Standard 6.
Long long ago, I used to read them at the bookshops. In the bargain bins. You know, like 2 ringgit for 1 issue of wrinkled comic book. But I enjoyed it anyways. That's where I got my Superman, X-Men, Spiderman, Conan.
Long ago, they had this shop called Bookazine.

Anyways, I kept reading comic books because I loved one artist very much. The Korean named Jim Lee. He is responsible for revamping X-Men and making X-Men #1 as one of the highest selling issue of comics in modern times. This is backed by the fact that issue alone had 5 variant covers. You buy the same thing 5 times for different covers to combine into one giant picture.

Price of comics have increased over the years. It is now at least about RM15 per book.

I used to get my comics at bookshops and mamak magazine newsstands. Later, when I was in secondary school, I was introduced The Mind Shop in Damansara Up Town. The premium comics specialty shop. I used to make sure I dressed up nice before going, because it was a place whereby rich kids went. I wasn't. Just a big comic fan.

After that, a few more comics shops were available like Headmasters, Comics Corner and others. Many of these other shops closed down over the years. Not enough supporters. Why buy comic books when you can download, and you can have other entertainment like video games and what not.

Only those who really love this medium will continue to support it.

My taste in comics has not changed. I still like the superheroes stuff. Most of my other friends, over time, went into adulthood now prefers darker and more twisted stuff, like the ones from DarkHorse comics.

But I feel, it's through the superheroes stuff, you can reach out to the young generation. If you tell a story right, you can encourage them, and inspire them. Bring about positive changes.

"With great powers, come great responsibilities."

Spiderman is still one of my favourite superheroes. Because, he is very unique. He has to save the world, but the world, a lot of people, still hates him. He is a hero, but he also struggles to find a girlfriend or get a steady job. Much like average joes in our society.

He is not like Superman, everything perfect, everything is fine and nice. Peter Parker struggles, has ups and downs, sometimes, he is not even sure of himself. That is the appeal of Spiderman to me, he is down to earth.

Early 90s, comics were huge market. I remember my sec school has Philatelic & comic club. Gosh, comic collectors/ members were like a cult. It wasn't a collectible / trading item back then....but more like a commodity. Speculating value increase, etc makes it very exciting. Those were days, but now is more of a digital age. I only have one large box of comics left which i deem valuable. I still have my X Men #1, cover E. Nostalgic. Current comic price is nearly three fold back then...sigh!

I was "rojak" comic collector before this..coz it's really confusing for me last time which issue continues to which. Thanks to Kinokuniya for bringing in TradePaperBacks (TPB). Borders is getting lesser.

My recent collections:
1) X-Force Vol. 1, 2 & 3 (TPB)
2) X-Men: Messiah Complex (Trilogy #1) - collected edition (must read)
3) X-Force/Cable: Messiah War (Trilogy #2) - collected edition

Waiting list:
1) X-Force Vol. 4 (TPB)
2) X-Necrosha (collected edition)
3) X-Men: 2nd Coming (Trilogy #3) - collected edition

few of Marvel's most famous penciller/artist recently.

Mike Choi
recently..i've became huge fan of him due to my fav Wolverine in new X-Force titles...partner by Sonia OBack, the comic possess both great art and coloring theme. Mike Choi is now my #1 fav artist.

Adi Granov
he's more to CG art style...very nice indeed

David Finch
he has same skill quality as Mark Silvestri (Top Cow's The Darkness)

Mark Silverstri
from Top Cow now Marvel also. Love his work in "The Darkness". some of his cover art have CG look as well.

Billy Tan
to me..his art is quite similar and 2nd to David Finch

Humberto Ramos
u will know him in Marvel's Civil War story line...he's more towards cartoonic look..yet he got his excellent colorist and inker with him, thus the most colorful comic page available.

Chris Bachalo
not bad as well

Borders is cutting down on things that don't sell well.

American comics being one of them.

They are slow movers. Borders also stopped bringing in annual Calendars beginning this year.

For previous 3 years, Borders imported Wall Calendars, pocket calendars, desktop calendars. All kinds of designs. But they stopped.
