ImageImageImage

I've been having problems logging into my photobucket acct. Just switch to flickr. Hiya~ :? Waste time :|

Anyways. Wat is Otona no kagaku u ask?
Otona no kagaku 大人の科学マガジン is an adult magzine  .... Science for adult. Literally translated.
I stumble upon this magazine on Boing Boing few days ago and was really excited abt it. So I search a bit and was suprise even to find hlj carries some of its products.
Basically, its a quartely science magazine that comes with very neat science kits/models for you to construct. Might be abit more challenging for us bcos the whole mag is in Japanese. The downturn is that the parts are mainly plastic. :doubt: But its cheaper to collect then the other education kits also produce by Gakken. (up to ¥11,600) I saw some sites sell these mags at ridicules prices US40+ imagine after adding in the delivery charges!! Craparse!~ :o

But Hey!! Look no further!! Our beloved "Malaysia Adah Lagi" goooot also!!  I ordered mine online, but KL folks (if u r intrested) can head down to Kinokuniya to get urs! Go look at the Japan section on the 2nd floor. So far I managed to get these issues. Vol 8,9,11,12,13 & 15 The only ones at the store. But I've try to backorder the rest of the issues. Fingers cross. :pai seh:

Lastly I give u a list of kits feature on each Issue. Just taut u might want to get the ones u only want.

Vol. 01: Jet Boat
Vol. 02: Spy Set
Vol. 03: Pinhole Camera
Vol. 04: Crystal Radio
Vol. 05: Hooke Microscope
Vol. 06: Phonograph
Vol. 07: Steam Engine Car
Vol. 08: Gravity Clock
Vol. 09: Planetarium
Vol. 10: Stirling engine
Vol. 11: Newton Telescope
Vol. 12: Da Vinci Helicoptor
Vol. 13: Kaleidoscope Projector
Vol. 14: Stereo Pinhole Camera
Vol. 15: Paper Projector
Vol. 16: Karakuri Mechanical Doll
Vol. 17: mini TepMeH
Vol. 18: Wind Generator
Vol. 19: Galileo's Telescope
Vol. 20: Bird Organ

P/S: Will be borrowing some pics I found online to show u peeps.

Thnx patrick & solid snake :D

Yes, these are science magazines. Like for eg: Vol 12 that I've opened up.
ImageImage
U can see the magazine, and a styrofoam box that hold the parts for the model. In this case, the DaVinci Helicoptor model. The issue features a brief history of the model and the inventor (Davincci) and later some articles on how other people who has build and modify their own helicoptors. neat stuff~ :o Then at the back some adverts featuring some of their more expensive kits/newest products.

Although the instructions are in Jap. but they r fully illustrated. Very detail. I can scan some pgs, but hv to wait till weekend. I brought all home last nite~ Its relatively easy for those who had experience in building models. Science for adults but more like toys for Kidults....

I really wish I can start building them, but I'm postponing these projects till I got my room renovated. I dunt want the models to get dusty cos I've no where else to keep them. So properbly in another 2-3 mths. :| In the mean time, I'm trying very very hard not to open them. :p

Its really kool I'll show u why.....

Vol. 15: Paper Projector
Image

Inside the kit they already provide u with 9 short films. (*scream* AstroBoy!!!) So this is like the ole school projector thingie' u got to fix, tape & wind the thing to roll the film. Still not freak out?....wait... this is going to.... :???:

YOU CAN MAKE UR OWN PAPER FILM!!!! Faaaar-out!!!!
Yes! With the help of moviemaker (WinXP free application) & then download a simple application(The layout for the animated pix) after a few more steps.... U got ur own reel of film. *scream* :-D *scream*

Ultra cool~

But I can hardly wait till I get my hands on this issue......

Vol. 14: Stereo Pinhole Camera
Image

I've backorder this. Hoping... waiting... praying...
Ok, u might go wondering wat does this plastic camera do?
SWwwwwweeeeeeeet stuff, I tell ya'

Okie 1st of all look at this pic. I borrow these great examples frm NABETANI Takenori at flickr.
Best is to copy & paste into a new window. So there is not much distractions when u try to c it. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1103/590012715_4718c18f96_o.jpg
Image
Then sort of cross ur eyes lookin' at the center, till u see a 3rd image in the center of both the images. Something like this...
Image
Get it?? Very soon u will get the drift of it and also look at this.

Hey Patrick, I think I've a solution for u. :Woo: If u want I can 'make' an english instruction menu for u. Its not entirely impossible but wat I did is I dwnload the pdf menu online. Select the Jap, translate it in babelfish and change the wordings in the menu. Homemake Jap->Eng menu.

Anyways. Here's how the menu looks like. :Woo:

Just abit of update~

Volume 16: Karakuri Mechanical Doll

Image
This is releasing on 29 June 2007~ I wonder got free green tea included?

This is one of the previous issues. I like stars. I'm a huge Star Trek fan. (Not the Kirk series though) Once consider sharing a telescope with my brother... but no $ Bcos we want to go for the real deal~ Those with 'tracking system'. But... *sigh* So this is pretty amazing for me liao.
Volume: 09: Planetarium
Image
Stars all over the place. I once bought a crappy paper one from Cause-way :? Good also, but hv to change the dome for South & North hemisphere.
So this is for u who dig space-stars-trekkie-wookie ET-bingbing peeps...
