I remember somebody talking about items including EMS shipping from overseas cannot be taxed if it's under RM500.

So I went on and give it a go and bought some items from HLJ.

I specifically made a purchase under RM450 including EMS shipping after yen conversion. But seems the custom is holding the item. It's just normal figures.

So how true is the RM500 non-taxable rule? Is there any place I can read about it? Does it apply to "purchase" or only "as a gift"?

So is the under RM500 rule really exist? I asked people to show me the clause but nobody could. If I don't have black & white how am i going to argue with the custom?

Erm...I can only said that they can do whatever they want....they can even hold a RM100 shipment...

I better not get myself into this kind of stuff, but do u actually think they (general, whoever u think they're) actually follow procedure & rule?

I'm not sure. I made the purchase after reading few guys over here very confidently talking about the under RM500 EMS thingy, so I tested it out. Seems the rule's not working le I not only have to spend double the Postage fee for EMS I end up paying more tax for the EMS shipping itself lol. The EMS alone was RM120...

But the 70% discounts worth the try i guess... the only problem is having to take time & effort to make it to the custom.

That's why I say its not 100% Custom Detain Proof.

May I know where you had the EMS shipped to? Which State?

From Japan direct to Johor.

Would like to know is the EMS cost taxable? Last time I asked somebody to collect on behalf and they actually included the postage into taxable total wtf???

Yup, that's the same thing that happened to me whenever custom detains my stuff.

Also noticed something else, don't know coincidence or I'm just speculating. EMS Packages (if 1 item) within Klang Valley usually not detained, but I noticed Penang and now Johor they do .... hmmmmm
